non-stop is approx 5-6 hours, but count on losing a whole 8-10 hours of your day with an early arrival for security checks, on/off, luggage and all the delays. Flying in & out of SF is tricky this time of year - Northern California winters are all rain, rain, rain - I have 10+ years dealing with that airport and their winter weather. I actually booked an incredibly cheap flight by going directly to an airline website (Southwest Airlines in my case). Going direct to the airline gave me a promotional airfare that bested Travelocity and Priceline by a good $150. Southwest is supposed to start Houston to San Francisco on 08/26. You can also sometimes get cheaper fares if you can fly into/out of an alternate airport. Say, San Jose instead of San Francisco.

When is the best time to buy flight tickets to London from San Francisco?
Planning on going towards the end of October for two weeks. Fares were around $630 this past weekend but jumped up to $800+ on Monday. I just found out that the BFI London Film Festival is running from Oct. 14-29, during the time that I'll be there. Should I go ahead and buy the ticket now or wait another month or so in the hopes that several airlines will have a Fall fare sale to London? Also, any recommendations for cheaper European cities to fly into around that time?

Flights to London can change on a daily basis. I fly to London from US once a year and find that maybe Sept/Oct the fares are cheaper. For instance if you check American Airlines daily (direct flight) you may strike it lucky as sometimes they have a sale of fares so for now if I were you I would just keep checking. Good luck.

That's actually a very good price for flying (a) during the holidays and (b) returning in high season. I doubt that you will find anything cheaper. You might consider using Orbitz, which now has "price assurance;" if someone gets a lower price on the flight, they will refund that difference to you.

Last time I did it, it was around 8 1/2 hours. Take Virgin Atlantic. They generally have cheap flights out of SFO and you get to watch whatever you want on their system.
