Flights/hotel from San Francisco to Los Angeles

Flights/hotel from San Francisco to Los Angeles?
Dear Yahoo! traveling hearts, I will traveling from San Francisco to Los Angeles during April and is doing a early planning here. I hope you can share with me your experience with flying to SFO to LAX and the hotel you stay in Los Angeles. I have a few traveling questions here: 1. What are the good flights from SFO to LAX that you have known/traveled? 2. Where is the more economical accommodation in Los Angeles? I need to attend an event in Howard street, city area so do you know of any good hotel around this area? 3. Which hotel do you recommend and which to avoid? It’s my first time to Los Angeles so just want to be sure my planning goes well and smooth with your sharing and advice Thank you so much!! not necessarily looking for hotel around Howard street, so long it is not too far and around center will do. thank you.

The beach has a 928-ft pier from which to fish, an aquarium, nine-hole golf course, surfing, volleyball and Sunday afternoon concerts. But, most importantly, it’s the place to swim, bronze, in-line skate, see and be seen. * The biggest and best museum in L.A. is the Getty, which houses an impressive collection of Western art from the Middle Ages to the present day. How do I rebook my China Airlines flight to Manila

How do I rebook my China Airlines flight to Manila?

You would probably have beter luck calling the original airline than finding a bored working airline agent cruising Yahoo 360!
2 :
Call the airline that you are going on. Give them your confirmation number. You may incur a "change fee" and an additional airfare fee because of the price of the trip may have gone up since you purchased it. By the way, Continental may be going direct from Newark to Bejing China, which is China's New York. Cooool
3 :
just go the place where u have booked the ticket and rebook it as normally u do http://www.china-airlines.com/en/index.htm
4 :
With whom did you originally book your flight with? If it's with a travel agent, ask them to make the necessary ammendments to your booking. If you booked direct with China Airlines, you'll have to call their Reservations and request the ammendment yourself. http://www.china-airlines.com/en/index.htm Just be ready to pay the charge for ammending your ticket.

what weather conditions would delay a flight

what weather conditions would delay a flight?
i have a flight going to san francisco from reno, nv.....according to the forecast, there will be a thunderstorm....what weather conditions would delay a flight? how many miles of wind would delay a flight?.....btw- im riding one of those small canadair jets.
Aircraft - 3 Answers

1 :
well thunderstorms are one of the worst because of the wind shear and strong downdraft associated with them.
2 :
At the departure airport, the about the only thing locally that would delay the take of would be a thunderstorm directly over the airport or right in the departure path. Any steady wind short of a hurricane would not be likely to delay departure. You should know that thunderstorms are pretty common in summer, but most of them are relatively small and isolated, so airliners just fly around them. The link below is a great example of how airliners handle thunderstorms - it shows the movements of the entire FedEx fleet as a thunderstorm arrives at their Memphis hub as they are all inbound. http://www.alexisparkinn.com/photogallery/Videos/2006-5-5_FedExDiversions.wmv
3 :
Low/nill visibility on the ground at either the departure or arriving airport. Snow, Ice on the runway.Strong winds,(> 20-25mph)at ground level, Severe Thunderstorms in the vicinity of the airport, Hurricane, etc.

I need to store 2 carry-on sized bags near a Bart station in San Francisco, need a suitable public locker.?
I need to kill 3 or 4 hours in San Francisco before my red-eye flight leaves, but the only BART station in the city with lockers is Balboa..and there are only 12. I need a public locker big enough to hold 2 carry-on size bags near a BART station.

I would take the Bart to the airport and check your bags in - then go kill time in SF. I think that you will find it almost impossible to store 2 large bags anywhere.
2 :
go to a hotel near where you will be killing time and have your bags checked by the doorman. they'll hold them for a few hours. i would trust that more than a BART locker.

i want to do a road trip from san jose, ca to san francisco. along the way i want to cross 5 bridges.(More)

i want to do a road trip from san jose, ca to san francisco. along the way i want to cross 5 bridges.(More)?
the 5 bridges ar: the Dumbarton Bridge, the San Mateo Bridge, the San Francisco/Oakland Bay Bridge, the Richman-San Rafael Bridge and (of course) The San Francisco Golden Gate Bridge. We want to end up in San Francisco for a flight home on Tuesday 10/20/2009. any suggestions on the best route?
San Francisco - 4 Answers
Random Answers, Critics, Comments, Opinions :
1 :
Get a good map and chart your trip so that you can hit all 5 bridges. Guess you know that you'll be paying $$ to use the bridges....
2 :
Try 101 North Then East on the Dumbarton. 880 North, then West on the San Mateo. 101 North, again, into San Francisco. Catch 80 East, crossing on the Bay Bridge. 80 North to the Richmond/San Rafael Bridge, 101 South and cross the Golden Gate into San Francisco. I'ts a roundabout route, but this should let you cross all five bridges and not have to duplicate any part of the trip except the last part, leaving San Francisco, getting back to the Airport.
3 :
Never heard of this kind of road trip before considering the trip from San Jose to San Francisco is like a hour, but not your way :) Anyway I guess you could start with going east over the Dumbarton won't pay toll if you're going that direction. Then head north on I-880 to CA-92 W (San Mateo Bridge) you will be paying toll to go across $4 Then you'll want to get onto US-101 N and head to I-80 E Bay Bridge Next go on I-580 to the Richmond-San Rafael Bridge I think you'll get the $4 toll on that one too. Finally head back down US-101 over the Golden Gate and I think the toll there is $6. Now the airport is not actually in San Francisco its about 13 miles south. Stay on 101 Have fun! Stop and park prior to the Golden Gate take a walk and look around so beautiful out there! http://maps.google.com/maps?f=d&source=s_d&saddr=US-101+N&daddr=US-101+N+to:I-880+N+to:US-101+N+to:I-80+E+to:I-80+E+to:US-101+S+to:37.613874,-122.397866&geocode=FXMXOgIda0i8-A%3BFWy1OwIdqhi4-A%3BFWBBPgId3By5-A%3BFVMRPQIdsd21-A%3BFfWdQAIdCYS0-A%3BFWA0QQId5u21-A%3BFUDaQgIdjoqy-A%3B&hl=en&mra=dme&mrcr=6&mrsp=7&sz=16&sll=37.615302,-122.398016&sspn=0.007972,0.015643&ie=UTF8&ll=37.596688,-122.433872&spn=1.020609,2.002258&z=9
4 :
I think you can do all these in one day if you start... From San jose 101 North Menlo Park 84 1. Take Dumbarton Bridge to Fremont 880 *(no fee) 2. then Hayward take 92 San Mateo Bridge back to San Francisco ($4) 3. San Francisco Take the Bay Bridge 4. Then take Bay Bridge to Oakland (No fees) 5. From Oakland take 80- to San Rafael Bridge ($4) 6. from San Rafael Bridge - take Golden gate Bridge. ($5) $14 in toll fees.. hope this help

Ticket with 1 year validation usually charged on the full price basis or otherwise you could get the cheaper price with restricted class but would cost you quite a bit if you make alteration to your booking. You'd better not looking for this kind of ticket through the ticketing website(travelocity, expedia etc) but directly to the related airline's website. Otherwise contact their number or book through the travel agent. The best and cheapest trip will be those with single airlines only (without transferring from one airlines to another airlines) Try these airlines: Singapore Airlines, Cathay Pacific, China Airlines, Eva Air, Philippine Airlines, Korean Air or Japan Airlines. Those airlines flies in and out to San Francisco and has flights to Jakarta.Your ticket price would be averagely cost US$2000, but if you are lucky you could get the US$ 1500 ones. Don't book through any American airliners( American Airlines, Northwest, Delta , United etc.) because you connecting flight to Jakarta would be based on the code share price which will cost you a fortune, since no American airliners fly to Jakarta by themself. For example: you book through American Airlines, from SFO to HKG you'll fly with AA , from HKG to Jakarta it would be with Cathay, but since AA is putting you on a Cathay's flight, the price is different and surely a lot more expensive, if you book through Cathay you might get US$ 1800 while if you book through AA you might get US$ 2500 for the same exact routing.

What's the closest airport to the port of Galveston

What's the closest airport to the port of Galveston?
So, I was thinking of taking the Carnival Elation cruise to Mexico. However, When I search for flights (San Francisco > Galveston) I get nothing. all it tells me is to refine my search for no flights were found

According to Carnival's web site there are two potential airports for Galveston, Tx: "42 miles from Houston Hobby International Airport; travel time is approximately 60 minutes. 70 miles from Houston Intercontinental Airport; travel time is approximately 90 minutes"
2 :
You will want to get to your departure port the day before, so you'll want to look into a hotel in Galveston. Some people rent a car to get from Houston to Galveston - may be cheaper than a van or cruise line transfers. Go to CruiseCritic.com, click on "Boards", then go to "Gulf Coast Departures" to find advice from people who have been there/done that.

Houston Hobby (HOU) is closest, and it's served by Southwest (if you like to fly with them, as I do).

best airline for traveling from Manila to San Francisco

best airline for traveling from Manila to San Francisco?
Can anyone suggest the best and preferably the most affordable airline for traveling from Manila to San Francisco on a round-trip flight? I have checked some of the travel comparison websites like Travelocity, but they cannot help you book a flight from the Philippines to the US. They can only seem to do the reverse. There are a number of Asian airlines providing flights from the Philippines to US, but I don't know which ones have the most reasonable fares.

3 :
Philippine Airlines flies direct from manila to San Fo and vice versa. If you want another airline, you can opt to fly via Eva Air or Korean air but they don;t have a direct flight to San Fo,you stopover in taiwan for Eva and Seoul Incheon in Korea to transfer planes for your onward flight to San Fo. Search at www.skyscanner.net for more airlines and better fares options.

I have a flight to Las Vegas From San Francisco. I'm traveling by myself and a liitle nervous advice

I have a flight to Las Vegas From San Francisco. I'm traveling by myself and a liitle nervous advice?
My flight is at 6am on the 26th and I get to Las Vegas at 730am. My check in is at 3pm so I will have time to kill. I get to my Hotel at 3pm I will sleep till 7pm and then go to the Goo Goo Dolls concert at 9pm. Its probabbly going to be until midnight then off I go back to my hotel. I check out on the 27th at 11am and my flight is at Midninght. When I get back to the airport at 1:45am I will be waiting 4 hours till Bart opens to go home, LOL. Am I crazy? What things can I do better? Id much rather drive my car to the airport but i dont want to pay the nightly fees either. Advice? Ive never traveled by myself before. On top of that I will be on my own for 12 hours with nothing! I meant from checkout at my hotel at 11am till 11:45pm I will have nothing to do that long and I will probabbly be super tired hahaha.

3 :
Bored at VEGAS, you have got to be kidding me,,,,,,,, your flight arrives at 7:30am and you dont have to be at your hotel till 3pm........................................................................... . play the slots.. ( penny machines you dont want to lose your money) . go and have breakfast or lunch at one of the buffets . take a walk down the strip visit the bars, arcade, etc etc
4 :
check out and leave your bags with the reception and hang around the hotel until you have to go to the airport - go sightsee ot go to another show Also: just take hand-luggage. You only need a change of underwear etc Don't wait 4 hours for BART get one of those Airporter shuttle buses from the airport Ask the hotel if you can check in early: call them on their 1-800 number the day before you fly Ask the hotel for a late checkout when you check in if you are nice they sometimes let you have the room for a few extra hours on the day of your departure: explain your predicament. I live in SF and getting back to the city by cab is about $25:00 splurge on that rather than wait hours and hours for BART (Airporter is about $15:00) I think if you paid the overnight parking fees you would save money in the long run and avoid some mega hassle. Overnight parking fees aren't that expensive.
5 :
just don't carry money visibly where no jewelry if possible buy a cheap watch so you don't miss your flights So many things to do so many places to go in Las Vegas you shouldn't have time to revisit your Hotel room, travel lite and have fun
6 :
What you have left out here is your age. Ask your hotel for an early check in time. Many times they will check you in early if they have open rooms. Ask, early in the morning by calling the front desk, for a late check out time. Again, many times if they have open rooms they will allow you to stay an additional number of hours at no charge. It is very easy to kill 12 hours at the Craps tables. If that isn't an option due to age CircusCircus has some entertainment you can watch for free. But that gets old quickly. I can not for the life of me understand why you would want to spend all night long waiting for BART! Hire a taxi, a town car or drive to the airport and pay the parking fees, don't be so cheap! Your schedule is borderline insanity at best, at least you can get home and catch up on your sleep!
7 :
It doesn't hurt to ask your hotel if you can check in early. If not, ask them to hold your bag. They always do that for early arrivals. That way you're free to go about Vegas before the check in time. If you're female traveling on your own, I would NOT recommend hanging around the airport till the Bart opens to get home. It's worth your safety to either leave your car at the airport so you can go home right away. Or... pay for a shuttle or car service to take you home. Don't know about you.. but as a working professional, my time is too valuable to be wasted at the airport. On the other hand, if you're male and can find things to do in the early morning, all the power to you! Hope this helps!
8 :
Believe me, been there, done that. I have spent 14 hours in an airport, many times spent 6-8 hours in airports, 9 and a half in a bus station, more than once 6 hours in train stations by myself. I've been travelling by myself for the past three weeks.. Tpday I'm flying to Brazil.. between planes and airports, it's about 24 hours. What I do is try to do everything really slow -- check in, walking, eating, all those things, so time goes by faster. Then, I always have some options of what to do: Books, something to write on, crosswords, mp3 players.. Times actually goes by faster than you'd think. Make sure to move a lot. If you have time in a place, walk around, get to know it, call your friends (I was so bored once I just called my phoneebook) :) It'll be ok! If I made it, you can do it!
9 :
Have a blast and relax
10 :
Bring a book or sleep while you can
11 :
When you arrive you should be able to check in your suitcases with the bellhop at the Hotel you are staying at....Also you may be able to get into your room a Little earlier then 3pm.........check out the MGM while you wait to check in sigh up for player cards at the casinos you get free stuff...If you play the machines a cocktail waitress will offer you a free drink you can get a bottle of water a cup of coffee....does not have to be alcoholic drink or it can be lol... You can ride the vans for free from one Casino to the next.... Have fun and be safe!!!

Does anyone know why recently flights to and from San Francisco is always delay

Does anyone know why recently flights to and from San Francisco is always delay?

Aircraft - 4 Answers

1 :
It's been going on for years... SFO has two sets of parallel runways, but they are too close for parallel IFR approaches, so the capacity of the airport is decreased when the weather goes below VFR. When I was flying for a west coast regional who served United in SFO, we used to call it the "San Fran 1 - 2 - 3 rule: 1 cloud, 2 airplanes, 3 hour delays"
2 :
Yeah the weather could be to blame for all of the delays. But the aircraft are equipped for category IIIc approaches down to 0 into 0/0 IMC. But it is rare that most pilots do this. (at least here in the US...and I would think twice about trying that in the mountainous terrain like out west) If fuel reserves allow, they can hold until weather improves or divert to the nearest airport with the basic VFR minumums. Pilots flying under 135 have visibility take-off minimums...so if any adverse weather conditions that exist would prevent a take off....so they don't arrive...which causes delays.
3 :
The problem is both the weather, and the airport itself. SFO has two runways that are parallel to each other, but they are "too close" together for both to be in use when visibility drops below a certain threshold. After the fog rolls in, only one runway is active, and suddenly 4 flights a minute becomes 2, and the planes start to stack up in the landing queue, and everybody is delayed. --- Kasey C, PC guru since Apple II days There's too much blood in my caffeine system.
4 :
First of all, not all crews and aircraft, even commercial airliners, are Cat III capable; second, even if they were it wouldn't solve the problem of having parallel runways too close to each other. The constant overcast layer that's here in the summer is the source of the problem, it basically cuts the airport's capacity in half.

How can you be leaving on Wednesday without a reservation. . .it is obvious you have not made any arrangements yet. There are two routes, one thru NY and the other going thru Atlanta. Try kayak.com or orbits.com
4 :
It is not nine hours... the people who got nine probably didn't take into account the time change and lay overs/connections (I don't think there are any non stop flights since the plane has to refuel for such a long flight). Do a search on kayak.com and you will see that the flights are 28hrs or more.

Cheapest I can expect to get a summer round-trip flight from New York to San Francisco

Cheapest I can expect to get a summer round-trip flight from New York to San Francisco?
I intended to go June 2010, so a little way ahead yet, but I was just doing some research on dates like October 09, March 2010, just to get a general idea of what sort of price flights are from NYC to San Francisco. It seems the average price for these dates is at least $300 round-trip per person, which to me seems really quite steep, when you can fly to European destinations from $350-400 return if you book it right. Is $300 generally seem to be the going price for summer flights from NYC to SFO, or am I not looking correct? I was looking to pay more in the region of $200-250, is that possible or is that price range unrealistically low? Thanks

I would go with Virgin America as your first checked bag flies free also. Play with the dates and see what works for you
2 :
If you wait long enough, maybe the airline will PAY YOU to take their flights! Wow-- I'd hold out for awhile. We can't, or shouldn't pay any "steep" fares. What the heck are the airlines trying to do, MAKE A PROFIT?!? Like a REGULAR business?!? Oh no they won't--- not on my fare!!

Flight leaves San Diego Friday 5pm to San Francisco & returns Sunday 4pm

Well i suggest if you are going to fly on a plane to wear a diguise. Per say maybe a LONG BEARD and a towel around your head. And make sure to bring lots of fluids. and make sure to open up watches and such electronics and bring the opened electronics on the plane on your carry on with the wires exposed and such. And sing the song You Dropped The Bomb On Me outloud the entire plane ride
2 :
To make the flight a more pleasant experience, put all liquids in your check-in bag and not in your carry-on. There will be long lines, so be patient. And buy Dramamine - chewables. I've flown several times since 9/11. I have several friends that are airline pilots and flight attendants. It is safer now than ever to travel. Relax and have a safe flight.
3 :
Things have really settled down since the post 911 days. I mean as far as the overall feeling that is in the airport. I traveled alot in late 2001 and early 2002, and man was in uncomfortable and eerie at most airports. Things are better today. My best advice is to arive at the airport early. Beacuse lines have gotten longer since before 911. I would advise 2 hours. That way incase you do have issues, you will have ample time to correct them. Also remember that if you carry liquids in your carry-on, they need to be in 3 ounce bottles and be in a clear ziplock bag. Otherwise you will have to put them your checked luggage.
4 :
I flew in February from Newark to Las Vegas, and they seem to have their routine down a little better than before. Check out your airport website--it has the info so you know what you can bring and what you can't, wait times, etc. http://www.san.org/
5 :
For starters, some of the most important information you can have is about what you can and can't pack, and whether it can be carried on or checked. Here are a couple of links to TSA web pages that you should familiarize yourself with. The first is the TSA prohibited items list, the second is the TSA 3-1-1 liquid carry-on guidelines: http://www.tsa.gov/travelers/airtravel/prohibited/permitted-prohibited-items.shtm http://www.tsa.gov/311/index.shtm Make sure you get to the airport at least 2 hours before your scheduled flight (check what the airline has to say about arrival time as depending upon the size and normal crowd level of the airport, you may have to be there a little earlier even). At the security checkpoint you are required to remove your shoes and have them screened, so I would advise wearing shoes that are easy to remove and put on, as well as socks so you're not barefoot on the airport floor. If you carry on liquids (all under 3.4 oz. and placed in a 1-quart zip-top bag) the bag will have to be taken out of your carry-on so security personal can see it. All of the security measures can be a nuisance, but they're in place to protect us, and it's really not all that bad. It usually takes me around 5 minutes, if that, to get all the way through the security checkpoint. Depending on what all you're carrying on though, your stuff can become separated if it's in different bins, so just double check to make sure you have everything before leaving the security checkpoint.

Bring knock out gas. To put up to the kid behind you's mouth, who kicks you hard.

Washington DC
2 :
The closest location to Atlanta would be Orlando (6-7 hour drive from Atlanta), followed by Washington DC (which is about a 9 hour drive), then Miami.
3 :
Know that closest doesn't necessarily mean cheapest, if that's why you're asking. Popular routes tend to have better deals.... (but the closest -- by a few hours -- is Orlando, FL)
4 :
Orlando is the closest at 7 hours driving time. Washington DC would be next at 10 hours. Open up Google Maps and take a look for yourself.

An airport. And be careful of Swine Flu. There have been cases of the Swine Flu in California. If you don't know what swine flu is look it up on google.com. It comes from pigs.

Hi - yes I don't know ALL the locations they have but this site offers great hotel packages for 3 days 4 days & 8 days starting at $199, plus the are giving away a Companion Airfare voucher when you buy a package. You basically buy 1 regular price ticket & get the 2nd ticket free for your companion. If you look online you can find them - here is one site I know that offers them - they might have a good hotel deal in the Rockies too, I don't know all the locations they offer - good luck!
3 :
there are quite a few sites that you can search that will likely give you the best prices available. just go here: http://hs10.info/envs and you will be able to compare prices on all the reputable travel sites in just a couple minutes. it's very convenient and will save you a bunch of time and money. Also, make sure you buy them online... otherwise they charge much higher fees for phone orders. good luck.

That is still several days away. Far too soon to know anything about flights on that day. If the weather is bad at SFO, you still might fly, but be diverted to another airport not too far away. Really, though, it is impossible to know this far ahead.

it doesn't snow in California well not in san francisco anywhere and there are no horse races in San Francisco either where are you getting all this false information?

What can I do at San Francisco Airport if I arrive at 11.35AM , and my connecting flight is at 3.35PM

What can I do at San Francisco Airport if I arrive at 11.35AM , and my connecting flight is at 3.35PM?
What can I realistically do? Between collecting my luggage (Cathay Pacific, from Hong Kong) and checking it back in to the following flight (US Airways to Phoenix)? I've never been to SF and would like to venture out for an hour or so just to see the sights. Please advise!
San Francisco - 6 Answers
Random Answers, Critics, Comments, Opinions :
1 :
You really don't have as much time as you think you have. You would not get your luggage through customs for at least 30 - 45 min. and you have to be at the gate 45 min before. If you leave the airport - you have to go through security again which could add an additional hour if the line is long. See if you can schedule a longer layover - and take the BART into SF - but that is underground so won't see much.
2 :
Realistically, not much. It'll probably take you an hour to get your luggage and clear customs, which makes it 12:30. You should check in and get your boarding pass for the Phoenix flight right away, even if you're checked in you'll need to be back at the airport around 2:30. The 12:39 BART gets to the Powell station downtown at 1:08, and you'd need to catch the 1:57 train to get back to the airport at 2:27. So you'd have about 45 minutes to look at (probably not ride) the cable cars, and soak up the ambiance. Beats hanging around the airport, I guess.
3 :
You will not have enough time to leave the airport and see enough to bother. The minute BART got you to downtown, you would have to head back.
4 :
You should check your luggage straight through to Phoenix from Hong Kong before you leave. Why would you have to pick up your luggage yourself and take it over to U.S. Air? You don't have enough time to go anywhere really. It will be 12 p.m. by the time you get off the plane, and you have to be check in at 2.30 p.m. You really dont have time to leave the airport. So I suggest having a nice lunch and walking around after your long flight.
5 :
you really don't have any time to go from SFO to downtown and back you would need to check in to your 3:30 flight about 45 minutes prior. So call it 2:30pm. There is no real way to check out SF in that short amount of time. The bart train 1 way from the airport to down town is about a 25 - 30 min ride. So that kills an hour already leaving you with 1 hour of time to look around. I would suggest doing sight seeing another time.
6 :
Not much you can do ... I'd stay at the airport and shop and dine if I were you.... There is an airport / airplane museum / library if you want some peace and quiet... There's also a Moma store...

Go to the travel sites like orbitz, travelocity, etc... Look for "specials" usually vegas will have the biggest selection of specials... good luck. Another angle is to check with car rental agencies. They sometimes have package deals with airlines that can cut the airfares in half. Enterprise is a good one to look at.
3 :
Try this hotel comparison site.
4 :
The best deals can be found on Southwest Airlines Vacation or US Airways from SFO. Another thing you can do is book your hotel separately using hotel promo codes. Here are a few: http://www.lasvegas-how-to.com/special.html

Did you try www.usairwaysvacations.com. Select low price finder and you will get some great deals.

Fisherman's Wharf, Alcatraz Jail, eat..... Many things.

Isabella, Take a look at our San Francisco Events Calendar. It's full of things to do in San Francisco. We maintain listings of all kinds of fun and interesting events going on in the San Francisco area. You can sort it by category and by date. New events are being added all the time so make sure you check back before your trip. Have fun!
3 :
You could take a cable car down to the Wharf and start on one end and walk to other end. Many attractions along the way to shop, eat, tour, mini harbor cruise, etc. Have dinner at the Franciscan in the middle of the Wharf on the bay for a wonderful sight of the bridge, Alcatraz, etc., plus the food is great. Try the calamari for an appetizer. Check out the vendors on the street corners. There is one near the Buena Vista (stop in here for an Irish Coffee) that has gemstone jewelry and is quite good and reasonably priced. Have one of the street artists do a caricature of you for a remembrance souvenir
4 :
Looks like possible cold, rainy weather. It's overcast now & a few drops on the car windshield this morning. So you would probably need to dress accordingly and plan to take public transit to see indoor things if you come and it is raining. Did you come to shop (or window shop)? Then go to Macy's or Westfield Mall. Did you want to ride the cable car and go to Pier 39, then you might need an umbrella so you don't get soaked when walking. Do you want to take the Metro or Market St. streetcar to the Ferry Building to look at the shops and eat there? Do you like art? Then go to the galleries: 49 Geary has many art galleries & you can pick up a Gallery Guide at the desk of one of the art dealers. Looking is free. If you want to see a permanent collection, go to the SF Museum of Modern Art: you would need to pay an entrance fee.
5 :
Don't limit yourself to overcrowded SF. San Jose, Monterey and Santa Cruz are just a short drive south from San Francisco. Napa is just north if you enjoy wine tasting. Once you see alcatraz, the golden gate and lombard st in SF it's pretty uninteresting.
6 :
*_~ So glad that you're considering San Francisco for your vacation. Try to stay in Union Square. http://www.unionsquareshop.com/ When you arrive at the airport, take the SFO air train that goes around the airport, then you’ll get off when you see Bart, take Bart to Powell Station (should be about $6-9 and it takes 20 mins ) that’s Union Square. http://www.bart.gov/ for schedule.. I just love the weather and the diverse culture here!! Traffic can be hectic but still bearable. Public transport is great! You can always take Bart, ferries, bus, taxi or cable car etc. However, if you don’t have much time or want to travel beyond the city – I think a car would help a lot. Yes, you have to pay for parking, but save you time to go more places faster.. Try the “City Sightseeing Open Top Bus Tour” which is about $30. “This unique open-topped bus tour of San Francisco includes four different routes, the Downtown Loop, the Golden Gate Loop, the Park Loop, and the Night Loop.” You're free to hop on and off as often as you want on the downtown loop. Embarcadero is wicked nice, and it's not THAT far, so you could really just walk down it to the Ferry Building. http://www.ferrybuildingmarketplace.com/ On Saturdays they do a nice farmer's market and you can get lots of good stuff. Walk down to Pier 39. GET THE San Franciso POPOUT Maps— I loves these POPOUT map- you get to see where you are- =) No Thinking required, especially on vacation. (Look at the pictures.) I have about 20 of these map of different cities.. It was so useful when I was in Europe! To Save money: get the “Go San Francisco”, http://www.smartdestinations.com/san-francisco-attractions-and-tours/_d_Sfo-p1.html?pass=Sfo_Prod_Go Cable Car (Union Sq to Ferry Building Pier 39 Alcatraz or Angel Island Japan town Lombard Street Chinatown Coit Tower Fishermen's Wharf Union Square for Shopping Golden Gate Park – Walk across the bridge Academy of Science Union Street Ocean Beach Exploratorium Palace of Fine Arts San Francisco Zoo Westfield Shopping Centre DeYoung Museum Yerba Buena Gardens SF Giants Fair at AT&T Park Take the ferry to Tiburon or Sausalito Segates is a great way to travel around the city. Gray Line's Yosemite in a day- Daily depart 7am San Francisco Giants- Baseball Game 49ers- Football games Winchester Mystery House Mansion- overrated. Gray Line's Motorized Cable Car City Tour

If you had $3000 to spend on a 5 day vacation (not including flight) - New York, New Orleans or San Francisco

If you had $3000 to spend on a 5 day vacation (not including flight) - New York, New Orleans or San Francisco?
This would be for a couple - 40 yrs old, married 20 years, kids gone, total middle class tastes. Love food, don't want to have to dress up too much; don't gamble, like art musems and interesting sites/sights, Love music, socially drink. Will shop a little but not a ton. Just want to absorb some culture. Probably this would be a spring - April, May trip.

I'm from the NYC area and while I suppose everyone needs to experience it, the city doesn't do much for me (especially as a vacation) You don't mention what time of year you'll be traveling. Skip NY and New Orleans in the middle of the summer. Not sure about SF. If I were you, I'd head to New Orleans in the Spring (April/May) If you're with the right person- it really doesn't matter where you end up, but you already know that, don't you?
3 :
New York
4 :
NY and SF will best fit your tastes, NYC is much pricier See http://www.bayareavisit.com/NYC.html http://www.bayareavisit.com/photos.html

San Fransisco is amazing and plenty of things to do. The Cable cars. You really don't need your own car to have a super vacation in San Franscisco. Don't forget the Harbour where you can have that lovely seafood meal. Do a Harbour Tour , and see Alcatraz. Ghirardelli Square, not to be missed, and oh! the chocolate. I know you would love this trip. Probably have money left over for New York. (Not New Orleans). Enjoy!
6 :
New Orleans is very cultural. You have the food and drinking part. There's an art museum and the D-Day museum. And not as pricey as Cali or NY.
7 :
San Francisco, the weather there will be lovely in April and May. Have fun!
8 :
If you love art museums New York City is where you want to go. Not only will you have multiple world-class museums to see, but there are also art galleries and auction houses. You will find many interesting sights including ethnic neighborhoods, business districts (financial, fashion, diamond, etc.), an active 24/7night life, history sites from the American revolution and earlier, multiple music venues from Avery Fisher Hall to the Bottom Line and more. The food is unforgettable. Be sure to see what is being offered at the United Nations. Their buffet lunch is one of the best bargains in town. The view is amazing, and they often feature the cuisine of different countries. Lunch at Le Bernardin, next to the Museum of Modern Art, is the best of the best if you like seafood. I could go on.... Because you are planning to go in the spring, think about taking the train to DC to see the cherry blossom festival. Enjoy your trip!

I would not recommend traveling to Cuba, but if you do, you have to do it as two separate round trips. One R/T from SFO to Mexico and one from Mexico/Cuba. The regulations require that persons subject to U.S. jurisdiction be licensed in order to engage in any travel-related transactions pursuant to travel to, from, and within Cuba. Transactions related to tourist travel are not licensable. This restriction includes tourist travel to Cuba from or through a third country such as Mexico or Canada.

Do it now. There is heavy demand for flights during the holidays, and they don't drop their prices.
2 :
Wait, the dates to watch are 50 and day 21st before departure. Also set-up some "fare-alerts" at the following sites: Please check: Tips: a- use flexible dates b- use alternative airports http://www.hotwire.com/ http://www.cheapoair.com/ http://www.kayak.com/ http://www.orbitz.com/ http://www.priceline.com/ http://www.expedia.com/default.asp http://www.farecompare.com/ http://www.farecast.com/ http://www.airfarewatchdog.com/ http://www.cheapair.com/
3 :
I am a travel agent in the UK. This is a no-brainer! You should not book it now, you should book it yesterday! Generally, scheduled airlines ration how many seats they sell in each price baracket - the fuller the plane, the more you will pay.
4 :
Definitely now. Airlines are cutting capacity so there are fewer flights. If you do not book now, you may not be able to fly come late December.

1. How long does security take in Terminal of San Francisco Airport on a Saturday around 11 AM- 12 PM? 2. If desired is it possible to walk from the BART station to Terminal One without going through security before I reach Terminal 1 or do I have to take the AirTrain?

Why do you want to know this? It sound suspicious to me.. I'm reporting you to the authorities!!
2 :
best to be at the airport at 10:50 two hours(sooner if u could) ahead to check in and what not. Or else the line will get CRAZY!!!!! usually the it takes 30 min from the bart to the terminal. usually they have buses that runs to and from the airport.

How early should I arrive at an airport for a Southwest flight

How early should I arrive at an airport for a Southwest flight?
I will be attending UCSD for college, and I'm going to book my flight from San Diego to San Francisco. I only have 2 hours and 15 mins in between my last final exam to when the plane takes off. I need to know how early I should arrive at the airport so that I can plan the time I need to spend on the road to get to the SD airport. Your answers are greatly appreciated! Thanks

2-3hrs. 1:45 the earliest
2 :
Two hours before the flight is what is recommended for a domestic flight. If you check in online, you could get away with arriving later, but at least an hour or more before your flight to be safe. http://www.southwest.com/flight/retrieveCheckinDoc.html
3 :
2 hours sometime the lines for southwest take a hour just to get TO secuirty-not THOUGH just to get up tp Security... you better book a later flight
4 :
You should arrive at least 2 hours before your flight departs because you never know how long the line in security will be. Also if you don't check-in online, you will have to wait to check-in at the kiosk and drop off any checked luggage. Also you do not know how traffic will be that day. Also know that gates can close 20-30 minutes before the flight departs so you really have less than 2 hours. I suggest you either think about rescheduling your flight or study really hard so you can finish your exam early and get to the airport as fast as you can.
5 :
It really depends on the time of the year (holidays and such) and time of the day. I personally usually get there about hour and a half before hand with no problem (usually with 45 minutes to sit around and wait for boarding), even on a day that was really busy at the airport. But definitely leave cushion time especially if this is going to be your first flight. It'll make you less nervous! Also, finals are 3 months off. You have PLENTY of time to book your flight. P.S. Don't forget about UCSD's free holiday airport shuttle! Idk when your final is, but check out their schedule when it becomes available! (see link below)

So an Average "Passenger plane" is around 500mph and the distance between West Palm Beach florida to SF Cali would be around 2,571 miles / 4,138 km so if you take a flight that doesn't make stops it would take you around 6 hours but thats just airtime. and you have to watch out for fight delays and weather problems So it would be around 6 hrs -Pablo Z ;D
2 :
If you search for flights on any travel site, it will tell you how long the flight is. Travel sites to try include Travelocity.com, Expedia.com, and Kayak.com.

You need government issued ID. A passport or a your green card will do fine.
2 :
Any one of: A driver's license A state issued non-driver ID card Passport Those would each be sufficient. A social security card is useless for that purpose. A green card would also work. This is the official list of acceptable ID: = = = = = = = * U.S. passport * U.S. passport card * DHS "Trusted Traveler" cards (NEXUS, SENTRI, FAST) * U.S. Military ID (active duty or retired military and their dependents, and DOD civilians) * Permanent Resident Card * Border Crossing Card * DHS-designated enhanced driver's license * Drivers Licenses or other state photo identity cards issued by Department of Motor Vehicles (or equivalent) that meets REAL ID benchmarks (All states are currently in compliance) * A Native American Tribal Photo ID * An airline or airport-issued ID (if issued under a TSA-approved security plan) * A foreign government-issued passport * Canadian provincial driver's license or Indian and Northern Affairs Canada (INAC) card * Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC) Non-US/Canadian citizens are not required to carry their passports if they have documents issued by the U.S. government such as Permanent Resident Cards. Those who do not should be carrying their passports while visiting the U.S.

As is clearly noted on Aeroplan's website, flights between the US and Europe zone 1 (which includes Germany) require a minimum of 60,000 miles in coach. The actual amount of miles you would need depends on availability of awards on your specific travel dates.

What is the cheapest way to make it to the San Francisco Airpot for a 6am flight? BART doesn't arrive in time

What is the cheapest way to make it to the San Francisco Airpot for a 6am flight? BART doesn't arrive in time.
I just moved to the Bay Area. I am looking for an apartment so I don't know where i'll be departing from. But I think i'll be in Walnut Creek. What is the cheapest way to make it to the SFO airport for a 6 am flight? I probably need to be there by 5 am to make it through security and checkin. Obviously the BART is the cheapest way to get there but the earliest I can get there with the BART is 5:30. Which is cutting it too close. I don't have access to a car and I can't rely upon somebody to drop me off. Can anyone recommend a cheap shuttle service or any alternative to this problem? I won't be booking anymore 6 am flights from SFO after this. Thanks!

Muni would be the best way to go, it'll get u there on time and its $1.50
2 :
How about a taxi, not exactly cheap though.
3 :
Supershuttle Suppershuttle has a website. Also Loris ariport shuttle.
4 :
you could take the last bart train to sfo which would get you to the airport just before 2 am. that would give you a little time to kill, but it sound's like you have more time than money right now.
5 :
Super Shuttle will get you there on time.
6 :
That's why I never ever book a flight at that time, I could have the same problem to go from home to the airport. Let's see! If I were you I would take the last BART train from Walnuk Creek to SFO the night before and wait until early in the morning to make the check- in. You will only wait like 4 hours, it's nothing. If you decide to try it in the morning, time will stress you out a lot! I'm serious and think about that you will have to wake up like 4pm or before as well. I always take book flights leaving at 8 or so and have missed flight twice lol and at 6am mmmmmm think about my sugestion again!! Good luck
7 :
The person who suggested Muni apparently doesn't understand the question, since Muni goes neither to Walnut Creek nor to the airport. Shuttles from WC are going to be expensive AND will probably give you a pickup time of 2 AM. At that point, it may be that you would do just as well to take the LAST possible BART train before they shut down for the night. By the way, with no car, how do you figure on getting TO BART?
8 :
Shuttles are efficient, but you'll pay $50+ each way. My sister lives in Hawaii and visits our mom in Concord once or twice a year. She used to use a shuttle service but found it's cheaper to pick up a rental car in Concord and drop it off at SFO. By the way, I had a 6 am flight 3 weeks ago and had a friend drop me off at 4:50. I was flying United which doesn't start checking anyone in until 5 am, and I arrived to find extremely long lines. Security is also backed up at that time because you'll be in line with people who arrived 2-3 hours before their flights. Those who suggested taking the last Bart train might have the right idea. (But I'd also check out the one-way car rental.)
