Direct flights from San Francisco to Dublin with Aer Lingus?
Is this actually going to happen or is it just hearsay and wishful thinking?

More likely wishful thinking, because the distance is just too long. It makes the most sense economically to stop in NY or Boston in order to refuel - and once they do that they are competing with flights that go SF-NY or SF-Boston and NY/Boston-Dublin. Long distance planes need to carry all their fuel with them, making them extra-heavy and thus expensive. Plus, not many people like to take such long trips when a break is possible.
